Choir & Chanters

Saint Euphemia is blessed to have one of the most talented choirs in the local region with over a dozen dedicated chanters. As of 2026, the St. Euphemia choir has been honored to serve in the national Archdiocese Choir for both choral and traditional Byzantine chant.

Choirmaster

Diakonissa Jessica Koubek

Diakonissa Jessica Koubek is a Maine native with ties to Northern Maine, the Midcoast, and
Portland. She was raised in a very musical Baptist household (her father being a pastor) and
received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting,
both from Ithaca College. She taught music at Great Salt Bay School in Damariscotta and was
the choral director at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham. Active in the community, she taught
private voice and piano lessons, directed musical theater productions, and led a women’s
community choir based in Freeport. She converted to Orthodoxy just before marrying Deacon

Sophrony in 2004 and they have five children whom they homeschool on their farm in Bremen.Prior to joining St. Euphemia, the Koubeks attended St. Alexander Nevsky Church in Richmond where Diak. Jessica and her daughters sang in the choir for many years. She has beenchoirmaster at St. Euphemia since December of 2023, is a member of the AntiochianArchdiocese National Choir, and is studying Byzantine Chant and the Typicon through theAntiochian Orthodox Ecclesiastical Online Music School. Through her labor of love at the chant stand, we are blessed to have heavenly sounding liturgies every Sunday!
